Apparently this long short story about Freddie Otash, both a character & real person featured in a couple of Ellroy's earlier novels, compliments said novels (I was unaware of this before reading it) and as I haven't read the relevant novels* it's hard to judge if I have the knowledge for a full appreciation of it. I liked it, but didn't love it. Maybe I was missing something. What carried it for me was Ellroy's wonderful trademark style.
*Once I have read the novels which I believe are L.A. Confidential. and American Tabloid my appreciation and rating of this short may well change.
